Henry County Sheriff's Office

Across Henry County, Iowa, the Sheriff's Office enforces state and county law in the unincorporated countryside and in small cities such as Salem, Olds, Lowell, Swedesburg, Coppock and Westwood, where deputies take reports on theft, vandalism, assault, drug activity, abuse and crashes and also enforce traffic law. The office operates the Henry County Jail, the main detention facility for the county, and its dispatch center sends police, fire crews, emergency medical units and other responders to calls around the clock. A civil division serves original notices, protective orders and writs, carries out sheriff's sales and handles involuntary commitment paperwork. For evictions under Iowa Code chapter 648, a landlord's forcible entry and detainer notice is served before the court hearing, and a writ of possession must be requested from the Clerk of Court before deputies schedule a removal. Garnishments follow Iowa Code chapter 642; an execution stays valid for 120 days after the clerk issues it. Driver's license record requests are handled in person for a $10 fee, and records requests are invoiced before release, with time beyond 30 minutes billed. Weapons permits, fingerprinting and a drug take-back program are offered as well.
