Walker Police Department

Walker's police department, founded in 1963, holds accreditation from the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police. Road patrol officers rotate through 12-hour shifts in squads that alternate two-day and two-night stretches. A crash investigation team uses a total station and a drone to map serious and fatal crash scenes, and drone pilots, all FAA Part 107 certified, fly missions in the city and for neighboring agencies under mutual aid, including aerial patrols of high-incident areas. Cases that patrol officers cannot finish go to the detective bureau, which interviews victims and suspects, reviews surveillance video, obtains warrants and assigns a detective to KANET, the Kent Area Narcotics Enforcement Team, for vice cases. A Special Response Team trains monthly for barricades, active shootings and building clearing, and a Mobile Field Force joins a metro crowd control team with Kent County, Kentwood and Grandville officers. Community resource officers handle school visits and education seminars, and a court security officer serves the 59th District Court. The department offers fingerprinting by appointment and pistol purchase licenses.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Walker city, MI has an estimated population of 25,201.
