Alabama Capitol Police Department

The Alabama Capitol Police Department is the Capitol Patrol Unit of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, based in Montgomery, AL. Under state law, the unit is charged with keeping order, preventing and investigating crime, and protecting people and property at the State Capitol and at state buildings used by Alabama's departments and agencies. ALEA is the agency in charge of securing the Capitol and its surrounding grounds in downtown Montgomery. State Troopers assigned to the unit control access to the Capitol, the State House and the Executive Mansion, screening visitors, state employees, packages and deliveries, and they patrol the wider Capitol complex. The agency monitors the Capitol entrances, where entry to indoor public areas requires consent to search, and it works with the state Department of Finance on rules for public events on the grounds.
