Andover, Kansas sits next to Wichita, and its police department is a nationally accredited agency of 28 sworn members serving a rapidly growing community. Officers enforce federal, state and local laws, take calls for service and patrol business districts and neighborhoods, and the department advertises grooming standards that allow beards and visible tattoos and no residency requirement. Community programs make up much of its work. A Chaplain Program of local clergy, appointed by the chief and serving as volunteers, offers emotional and spiritual support to residents in crisis and to department members and their families, including confidential critical incident stress debriefings, and gives the department a community-policing link to participating churches. Through Project ChildSafe, the department hands out gun locks with instructions for storing firearms safely at home, and its SPEED program pairs education with enforcement when residents raise concerns about speeding on their streets. The department also assigns liaisons to neighborhood associations, takes part in National Night Out and runs a mass notification system for emergencies and community events.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Andover city, KS has an estimated population of 15,508.
