Bibb County Sheriff's Office

Bibb County Sheriff's Office provides full law enforcement service to consolidated Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, through four divisions: Law Enforcement, Special Operations, Support Operations and Administration. Patrol deputies work out of five district offices, backed by SWAT, an explosive ordnance team, hostage negotiators and a traffic unit, and they enforce local ordinances as well as state and federal law. The Warrant Unit serves everything from misdemeanor to felony warrants, while Court Services secures the courthouse and the juvenile justice center and brings prisoners to their hearings. Criminal investigators are split into property, violent crimes, crimes against children, special investigations and gang units that work cases with neighboring, state and federal agencies, and crime scene technicians gather photographs, latent prints and trace evidence. The jail holds men and women 17 and older, with an in-house infirmary, a kitchen staffed by supervised inmates and a separate detention center for work release and community service. Support Operations covers central records, crime analysis, background checks, civil process, open records requests, polygraph exams and sex offender registration. The office also runs animal services, which shelters strays and injured wildlife and places animals with adopters, fosters and rescues, and its outreach includes CHAMPS, Crimestoppers and Neighborhood Watch.
