Buda Police Department

The Buda Police Department in Texas was founded on October 20, 2010, and its divisions now cover patrol, criminal investigations, victim services, community affairs and animal control. Animal control officers enforce city ordinances and state law on the care of animals, answer calls about strays, bites, cruelty and wildlife, and take impounded animals to the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter. Pets four months and older living in the city or its extraterritorial jurisdiction must be registered with the city, which requires a current rabies vaccination and a microchip or Pet Hub tag. Community Affairs offers child safety seat checks by appointment with a certified technician, Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch and a voluntary Smart Watch program in which residents help investigations with their own security camera footage. The department teaches Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events, built on the ALERRT Avoid, Deny, Defend approach and followed by a Stop the Bleed class from the fire department, and it holds a 10-week Citizens Police Academy every other year, with the next class in 2027. Residents can also seek public information through the Texas Public Information Act, Government Code chapter 552, apply for alarm permits and find crash reports through TxDOT.
