Carmel Police Department

Carmel, Indiana, home to more than 105,000 people in the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate, has a nationally accredited police department that pledges a working partnership with the community. Its Crisis Intervention Unit uses a co-response model that pairs mental health professionals with officers to deliver evidence-based crisis intervention and stabilization and connect people with essential resources. Through a partnership with Forte Sports Medicine's First Line Tactical Athlete Program, a full-time athletic trainer is embedded in the department to care for its officers. High school students can join the Carmel Police Cadet Program, which matches young people with adult mentors, teaches ethical decision-making and leadership through hands-on experience and community service, and runs an eight-month academy covering most aspects of police work before each recruit spends a day riding with an officer; new classes begin each fall and meet twice a month. Adults can take a free Citizen Police Academy on the department's responsibilities and operations, and parents can have officers check that a child safety seat is installed correctly.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Carmel city, IN has an estimated population of 100,501.
