Cleveland State University Police Department serves the CSU campus in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, as part of the university's Division of Campus Safety. Under the Ohio Revised Code, its officers hold full police authority on university property. The department fields 26 sworn, full-time officers led by a police chief, and it adds part-time officers for special events. Patrols cover more than 90 acres of state property as well as nearby city streets. The division's stated mission ties campus safety directly to the university's academic and community goals by keeping the campus safe, peaceful and orderly. Students, faculty and staff who feel uneasy walking on campus can request a Viking Safety Escort, which is offered as a personal-safety option rather than a ride service.
