The Clinton Police Department in Iowa aims to improve life in the city by partnering with residents to uphold the law under the Constitution, keep order, ease fear and keep people safe. The city's animal protection officer enforces animal ordinances, responds to reports of abuse or neglect and carries full police authority, and dog and cat licenses from City Hall or the local humane society must be renewed every January. Co-sponsored with Clinton Community College, the Citizen Police Academy gives participants a working knowledge of the department and the challenges officers face. Through the Community Camera Program, owners of homes and businesses can list their security cameras with the department so investigators know whom to ask for footage after a nearby crime, and the department has no remote access to those systems. The voluntary Crime Free Housing Program, developed in 2019 with Building and Neighborhood Services, trains landlords and managers in applicant screening and fair housing, conducts CPTED security assessments of lighting, landscaping and parking, and teaches tenants to recognize and report criminal activity. The department also links to Clinton County Crime Stoppers and the Iowa sex offender registry.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Clinton city, IA has an estimated population of 24,425.
