The Cobb County Police Department splits Cobb County, Georgia among six precincts covering the northwest, southwest, southeast, northeast, west and north. Several specialized units stand out. The Ranger Unit enforces state law and county ordinances on Cobb County park property, patrols Army Corps of Engineers land and the Silver Comet Trail, and gets around on motorcycles, bicycles, ATVs and four-wheel-drive vehicles. The Community Affairs Unit runs crime prevention seminars and teams code enforcement officers with police officers in high-crime areas, where zoning and nuisance violations can signal criminal activity. A Reserve Unit supplements the full-time force with volunteer officers and part-time officers who left the department in good standing after at least 15 years of service. The Central Records Unit maintains report files for the department and the courts, releases crash and incident reports under Georgia's Open Records Act, and operates the department's NCIC and GCIC computer systems. A chaplain program offers personal, family and spiritual support to employees of the police department, 911 communications and the Department of Public Safety. Residents can register home security cameras with the department to help investigators find footage and can sign up for neighborhood watch.
