Connecticut State Capitol Police protect the seat of state government in downtown Hartford. Officers patrol a seventeen-acre campus that takes in the State Capitol, the Legislative Office Buildings, parking garages, supporting state offices and the Old State House. More than 250,000 people visit the Capitol each year for legislative business, school trips or tourism, so much of the department's work centers on keeping hearings, sessions and public tours safe. The House of Representatives and the State Senate meet in chambers inside the Capitol, which also holds the offices of several statewide elected officials. An underground concourse and an elevated terrace walkway link the Capitol to the Legislative Office Building, where the department keeps its office and where ten public hearing rooms are located. The force works in partnership with Connecticut's municipal police agencies and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, which includes the Connecticut State Police.
