DeKalb County Police Department

Two of the DeKalb County Police Department's four precincts sit in Tucker, and the agency, founded in 1915, serves as the main police force for unincorporated DeKalb County, Georgia, while lending resources and operational support to the county's cities as needed. The department's 2025 annual report counts 705 employees spread across three divisions and the Office of the Chief. The Uniform Division is the biggest, with 385 sworn and professional staff spread over the North Central, Tucker, East and South precincts, and each precinct keeps its own investigative unit for auto theft, fraud, theft and burglary cases. The Criminal Investigation Division takes on homicides, robberies, narcotics and vice, special victims cases and fatal crash reconstruction, and it offers cold case homicide reviews. During 2025, officers handled 440,818 calls for service and made 7,497 arrests, a total that includes violations of ordinances in the cities of Tucker and Stonecrest. Community programs include a Mobile Crisis Unit that pairs officers with licensed clinicians for behavioral health calls, the PAL Plus youth program, Volunteers in Police Service, and a 12-week Citizens Academy that runs from August to November.
