El Dorado Police Department

Community Safety, Partners in Service is the motto of the El Dorado Police Department in Butler County, Kansas, which enforces city ordinances along with traffic and drug laws inside city limits; those cases go to the Municipal Court, and felony charges move to the Butler County District Court. The department follows a problem-oriented model of community policing. Patrol crews provide around-the-clock coverage, each led by a sergeant or master police officer, and recruits spend several months learning beside experienced officers before patrolling on their own. The department's detectives take cases involving crimes against children and vulnerable adults, sexual offenses, human trafficking, financial and internet crimes, felony assaults and suspicious deaths, working with partners such as Sunlight Child Advocacy Center, DCF and NCMEC. A traffic and community policing officer answers emailed traffic complaints, watches school zones and organizes events, and certified technicians inspect and install child passenger seats. Pilots in the drone program must hold FAA remote pilot certificates and fly under 14 C.F.R. Part 107. K-9 Rico, a dual-purpose Belgian Malinois, detects drugs and tracks suspects and missing people, and the team keeps its certification with the state police dog association through monthly training.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), El Dorado city, KS has an estimated population of 12,882.
