Fairview Heights Police Department

School safety has been a focus of the Fairview Heights Police Department in Illinois since the 2001-2002 school year, when it began providing a full-time school resource officer in partnership with two local school districts, District 105 and District 110. Since 2006 the school resource and D.A.R.E. roles have been combined, with an officer assigned to each district who teaches classes, works with school staff and coordinates school efforts with community support services. D.A.R.E. instructors complete an 80-hour training course before teaching the curriculum. Residents can attend a 10-week Citizens Police Academy that meets one night a week and covers crime scene work, tours of the station and county jail, canine demonstrations, range and simulator time and mock traffic stops, and the department also offers senior and youth academies. Rental property owners and managers must complete both parts of a Crime Free Multi-Housing seminar to keep their residential license, and sessions in Fairview Heights or O'Fallon both satisfy the ordinance. Through the city's partnership with St. Clair County Emergency Management, residents can sign up for free Everbridge alerts by phone, text or email about missing persons, serious crimes, evacuation routes, road closures and severe weather warnings.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Fairview Heights city, IL has an estimated population of 16,255.
