Falls Church Sheriff's Office

The Falls Church Sheriff's Office is the City of Falls Church's sheriff's agency in Northern Virginia, organized into Administration, Court Operations and Special Operations divisions. Its sheriff is elected every four years under Va. Const. art. VII, sec. 4, and the office works with the city police on traffic summonses, traffic control and special events. Court Operations protects the Falls Church Combined Court, home to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations and General District courts, screening everyone who enters and handling arrest warrants, civil process, judicial protection, prisoner lock-up and transport. An Emergency Response Team takes on hostage and barricade incidents, high-risk warrant service and dignitary details, and the Stockpile Service Advance Group trains deputies in chemical, biological and radiological countermeasures for a federal task force mission. Community programs carry much of the public-facing work: free child safety seat checks by deputies certified through a 40-hour course, Ident-A-Child fingerprint booklets, the READ residential traffic program with lidar, radar and a speed awareness trailer, Smart, Safe and Sober campaigns with NHTSA, and Operation Safe Halloween treat bags handed out since 1990.
