Grayslake Police Department

Leaving Grayslake for a long trip? Residents of this Lake County village can enroll in the police department's House Watch Program, and officers will check on the home from time to time until the owners return. That kind of service sits alongside a mission the department states in ten words: "To make people safe and to make people feel safe." Census Bureau Vintage 2025 estimates counted 21,140 people in the village in 2025. The department reports 36 sworn officers and three part-time officers, and it carries national CALEA accreditation. Four patrol shifts, called Watches, handle first investigations, traffic and ordinance enforcement, bicycle patrol and evidence collection. Grayslake also leans on countywide teams, among them a crash investigation unit (MCAT), a task force for serious crimes and the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group. Two officers are certified to teach DARE to fifth graders, while two school resource officers are posted full time, one at each Grayslake Community High School campus. By appointment, a certified officer will inspect a child's car seat at no charge, and community service officers help residents locked out of their cars.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Grayslake village, IL has an estimated population of 20,707.
