Henry County Sheriff's Office

Volunteers carry real badges at the Henry County Sheriff's Office in northwest Ohio. Its Special Deputies are a volunteer organization whose members hold Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification and carry the same arrest powers and uniforms as full-time deputies; they provide security at the Henry County Fair, school functions and private events and can be called out by the sheriff in emergencies. The office's K9 unit is built around Abe, a dual-purpose dog trained for drug detection, patrol support, building searches, tracking suspects and finding lost or injured people, and the team gives free demonstrations to community groups when schedules allow. Civil process is handled countywide, with deputies serving papers in the city of Napoleon and the villages of Hamler, Holgate, Deshler, Liberty Center, Malinta, New Bavaria and Ridgeville Corners; filings can arrive by mail or email, and fees are billed after service. Its front office in Napoleon is staffed every day, around the clock.
