Idaho Falls Police Department

Idaho Falls, a Snake River city of about 72,000 residents (2025 Census estimate), is served by a police department whose Uniform Division, its largest, combines patrol, traffic, parking enforcement and airport police. Its Investigations and Special Operations Bureau brings together detectives, crime scene investigators and the department's bomb squad, and the department also oversees Idaho Falls Animal Services, which runs the city shelter and investigates animal neglect and cruelty. Volunteers carry a notable share of the load: the Citizen's Watch Patrol, active since 2001 and drawn from retirees, working people, students and parents, has saved the city an estimated $100,000 to $500,000 a year by handling special events, neighborhood and park patrols, traffic control, vacation watches and ballot pick-up. Joining requires completing the department's Citizen's Academy, passing a background check and committing at least 10 hours a month. Through Blue in the School, officers adopt one of 12 Idaho Falls School District 91 elementary schools and visit at least monthly, joining classrooms, recess and lunch. In October 2026 the department began appearing on the live television series On Patrol: Live, and it hosts an annual 9/11 memorial stair climb.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Idaho Falls city, ID has an estimated population of 66,672.
