The Kenton County Sheriff's Office in Northern Kentucky serves the public from county buildings in Covington and Independence, where residents apply for Carrying Concealed Deadly Weapon licenses, schedule vehicle inspections and handle property tax matters. Operations deputies serve and enforce court orders addressed to the sheriff, split into process, protective order and warrant, eviction and execution, and vehicle inspection units. An inspector compares a vehicle's VIN with its title or certificate of origin, records mileage on the Kentucky title application and sends the form electronically to the County Clerk; salvage vehicles can also get a check of brakes, lights, horn, glass, turn signals and wipers. In evictions, deputies deliver and mail court notices after a landlord files a Writ of Forcible Detainer and later serve Warrants of Possession, and landlords in Bromley, Covington, Ludlow and Taylor Mill, cities that follow Kentucky's residential landlord-tenant law (KRS 383.500), may give seven-day notices. At the Kenton County Justice Center, Court Services deputies keep everyone attending court safe, screening visitors with metal detectors and x-ray machines and watching the building on camera. Before applying, first-time concealed carry applicants must review a legal guide published by Kentucky's Department of Criminal Justice Training.
