Lafayette Township no longer runs a police department of its own; coverage in this Medina County, Ohio township now comes from the neighboring city. After the township trustees asked the City of Medina for coverage in early 2018, the Medina Police Department took over on September 1, 2018, policing the township under a police services contract, funded by passing the township's police levy revenue through to the city. A five-year renewal signed in 2022 extends the arrangement to the close of 2027. To cover the added territory, Medina created a southwest patrol zone in 2018 and assigned an officer to it every shift. Township residents receive the same community-oriented policing programs offered inside the city. In its first year, Medina reported that patrols there focused on house checks for residents away on vacation, neighborhood patrols and traffic enforcement where crashes and complaints cluster, that its detective bureau handled township investigations, and that zone officers joined township events such as the Lafayette Pancake Breakfast. Medina's 2025 annual report counted more than 5,300 calls for service from Lafayette Township that year. The Medina Police Department is the successor agency for police service in Lafayette Township.
