Louisa County Sheriff's Office enforces federal, state, county and city law throughout Louisa County, Iowa, investigating thefts, vandalism, assaults, drug activity, reported child or domestic abuse and other criminal complaints. Deputies patrol the countryside and provide law enforcement for Grandview, Letts, Fredonia, Morning Sun and Oakville, enforcing traffic law, working impaired-driving cases and investigating crashes. The office runs dispatching and law enforcement around the clock with Enhanced 911, a K-9 unit and emergency medical dispatchers, and it maintains the county jail, whose jailers hold National Sheriffs' Association certification. Its duties reach civil matters too: the sheriff executes and returns writs and other legal process, assists with involuntary mental health commitments and handles duties in private-property condemnations, and the sheriff also issues gun permits and makes special investigations at the county attorney's direction. The office belongs to the Muscatine County Drug Task Force. From its web page residents can find civil service fees, sheriff's sales, the jail's inmate visitor and mail policy and a jailer application, and the Louisa County Alerts system, sponsored by Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management, sends severe weather and other emergency advisories to subscribers.
