Matagorda County Sheriff's Office

Bay City is home base for the Matagorda County Sheriff's Office in Texas, which operates the Matagorda County Jail and posts estray notices with case numbers when stray livestock such as goats, mares and quarter horses turn up in the county. Families who want to put money in an inmate's commissary account can use a kiosk in the jail lobby, call a toll-free deposit line or go through Access Corrections online, and they need the inmate's name, SO number and birth date to do so. Like other Texas sheriffs, the sheriff is a licensed peace officer who enforces the state's criminal laws, provides security for the courts and serves warrants and civil papers. Because state law (Local Government Code Section 351.041) assigns custody of the county jail to the sheriff, booking, custody and inmate accounts all run through this office. Residents can contact the sheriff's office by phone or email, and the office also directs families to a national database of missing children for information about missing Texas children.

Public contact information is available for Matagorda County Sheriff's Office, including 1 listed contact that officers can use for training coordination or general inquiries when provided by the department.
