Noble County Sheriff's Office

Jail history runs deep at the Noble County Sheriff's Department in Indiana. The county built a log jail in 1849 and replaced it in 1876 with a second jail, which received electricity in 1908, now belongs to Indiana's historical registry and opens to the public during scheduled hours. A third jail went up on the east side of Albion in 1967, and the present jail complex was completed in 1999 through a remodel combined with new construction. The department's K-9 teams complete a 14-week course and handle drug detection, tracking, building searches and the search for missing persons, and they give demonstrations at schools, sweep common areas and search businesses when owners ask. At the start of 2017 the department formed a small unmanned aircraft systems division that flies a drone equipped with FLIR thermal imaging. The on-call deputies who fly it are FAA-licensed remote pilots, and the aircraft supports search and rescue, missing person cases and efforts to locate fleeing suspects. These units give deputies added tools for patrol and investigations across the county.
