Norcross Police Department

Norcross, Georgia formed its police department in 1870, when the city charter called for the appointment of night watchmen; by the mid-20th century city offices and the department shared three rooms and a jail cell, and since 2001 officers have worked from the renovated City Hall complex. Now a full-service municipal agency, it is organized under the Office of the Chief into a Support Services Division and a Uniform Patrol Division, each led by a captain. Patrol, the department's most visible arm, works four rotating shifts, each led by a lieutenant, and also covers emergency services, special events, traffic enforcement, court security and filming security. Detectives in the Criminal Investigations Division follow up on felonies such as thefts, frauds, burglaries, robberies and aggravated assaults, collaborating with other agencies and testifying in court, supported by a crime suppression unit, a crime analyst and a property and evidence technician. The Communications Center answers emergency and non-emergency police calls around the clock with dispatchers certified by the Georgia POST Council. Community outreach officers teach the ADVANCE program, short for Avoiding Drugs, Violence, and Negative Choices Early, in city elementary schools, and a professional standards unit manages CALEA and state certification.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Norcross city, GA has an estimated population of 17,669.
