Officers in the Rome Police Department's Uniform Patrol Division in northwest Georgia respond to every call for service, providing round-the-clock protection, visible preventive patrol, crash response and crisis intervention, and building community contact through the department's COP program. Traffic safety gets its own specialists. The Special Operations Unit brings together DUI enforcement officers, motor units, an accident reconstruction team, school resource officers and child passenger safety technicians, and the city's SWAT and Mobile Field Force teams train and deploy under the same unit. Its enforcement work, including DUI patrols, speed details, distracted driving periods and seat belt enforcement zones, is timed to the mobilization periods of the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. Outreach is broad for a city department. The eight-week Pastoral Police Academy gives respected community members a first-hand look at policing in Rome, a women's firearms safety course is open to female residents, families in need can request help getting a child safety seat, and a newer Bicycle Ambassador Program is meant to strengthen relationships between officers and the community. Residents can also pass tips through an anonymous Crime Line or apply for a ride-along.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau (ACS 2023), Rome city, GA has an estimated population of 37,754.
