Rutland Police Department

Rutland Police Department serves Rutland, OH. The Department, headed and overseen by the Village Marshal who holds the rank of Chief of Police, is responsible for the protection of life, liberty and property of nearly 450 residents. The Department was originally founded shortly after the incorporation of the Village of Rutland in 1913 as the Rutland Village Marshal's Office, headed by an elected Marshal, with deputy marshals and nightguards appointed by the Marshal. The formation of the Marshal's Office was paired with the construction of the Rutland Village Hall and Jail. After 1953, the Village Marshal and deputy marshals would be appointed by the Mayor, instead of being elected, and given the rank of Chief of Police. This transition would reconfigure the Rutland Village Marshal's Office into the present-day Rutland Police Department. Although a small agency, the Department is committed to excellence in service and offers an array of services to the community, including patrol services; criminal law enforcement and investigation; traffic enforcement; and code enforcement.
