Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office

Wabaunsee County Sheriff's Office has served Wabaunsee County, Kansas, and nearby communities since 1859, and it keeps copies of the Bill of Rights posted in prominent spots inside its building as a reminder of the constitutional rights it pledges to respect. Its work spans patrol, communications, the detention center, work release, a civil office, a victims advocate, records and administration. Patrol deputies give uniformed response 24 hours a day to emergency and non-emergency calls, patrol neighborhoods, enforce traffic law, follow up on cases and are encouraged to work with residents to solve neighborhood problems, with K-9, search and rescue and reserve duties also assigned to the division. Volunteers of the Sheriff's Posse coordinate search and rescue efforts in the county. Administrative staff handle the budget, personnel records and concealed weapons permits, detention staff help with sex offender registration, and the undersheriff handles the bulk of jail administration. Vehicle identification number inspections are done weekdays at the sheriff's office for a $20 cash fee, offense reports cost $8 and accident reports $5, and payment must be cash or certified funds. Quick links cover Crime Stoppers tips, the YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment, burn permits and careers.
