Waseca County Sheriff's Office

Under Minnesota law the Waseca County Sheriff's Office keeps the peace across the county, and its deputies work with the Waseca County Attorney's Office on crime and crash investigations. Routine patrols are meant to prevent crime and include searches for missing persons, summer boat patrols on the county's lakes and winter snowmobile patrols. Deputies also serve warrants, commitments and court orders, and a civil process division handles civil papers and judgments. Court security is another duty: deputies protect judges and jurors, keep prisoners secure and restrained in the courtroom and transport them. The county jail sits in the Security Building just west of the courthouse in the City of Waseca and takes in-person visitors on Thursday evenings and weekend mornings; visitors must be adults with a valid photo ID, minors need a parent or guardian beside them, and each visit lasts 30 minutes, with no more than two visits per inmate on a visiting day. A volunteer Mounted Sheriff's Posse, founded in 1969, secures scenes and perimeters and helps with disaster response, search and rescue, the county fair and traffic, and since 2013 members may serve with an ATV in place of a horse.
