University of Maryland - College Park Police

The University of Maryland, College Park campus is served by its own full-service police department. Its operations go well beyond patrol to include a 911 Emergency Call Center, a Security Operations Center, building security services, community outreach programs, a Student Police Auxiliary and a training academy, with more than 100 police officers, civilians and student employees in all. Officers hold MPCTC certification as required by Maryland state law and have full authority to investigate crimes, make arrests, carry firearms and enforce Maryland traffic law. The department also operates a collaborative team pairing licensed mental health clinicians with police officers to answer calls involving people in mental health crisis on and near campus.
